Beware of the Dogma is a booklet for graphic designers wishing to reflect on and question notions of design as a discipline. It explores the theoretical nature of rules and obedience to them using extracts from an interview with a legal philosopher and the theories of Hart and Kemp. The aim of the book is to encourage designers to understand the goal a rule serves instead of dogmatically following certain rules of typography. More Info

The ideas presented are applied to the contrasting typographic principles of Robert Bringhurst and Jost Hochuli, encouraging designers to use their understanding to find appropriate solutions in given contexts and not just blindly following a rule because it is a rule. Inspiring quotes from British astrophysicist Professor Dame Jocelyn Bell are used to triangulate the argument. Printed on three stocks, with supplementary theoretical and practical information presented on smaller pink pages.
