Screen printed cover of Review part 2 Inside spread of of Review part 2 Inside spread of of Review part 2 Inside spread of of Review part 2 Inside spread of of Review part 2
For a university brief I produced a review of The Consolations of Philosophy by Alain de Botton. Botton's book encourages the reader to think differently about the frustrations of daily life. I let this inform the design decisions in the review where I challenged normal book making conventions. The booklet was screen printed onto one sheet of paper which was French folded with quotes printed on the reverse side of the pages, which had to be torn open along perforations to be read. More Info
Much of the book's content is on the front cover which was made of uncovered book board. French folded books do not usually make use of the insides of the folded pages, so here I printed quotes on the insides and then perforated the edges so reader could tear them open to find them. This encouraged the reader to search for information that was held back at first, which goes against the norm of presenting all the information to the reader with as few obstacles as possible.
